First live chat from ASCO successful

06/01/2009

"We were afraid that so many people would sign on to our chat room that it would crash the server," said Bill Bro, Kidney Cancer Association CEO.  "Fortunately, because of the late Sunday afternoon time of the event, participation was such that this wasn’t an issue."

The May 31, 2009, chat hosted at www.KCAChat.org, lasted about 25 minutes and featured links to abstracts that were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting that continues in Orlando, Fla. through Monday.  There was also time for Q & A with chat participants.  There are survivor-led live chats scheduled throughout the week and more information is available in the chat room.

"This was our first live chat from ASCO," Bro said.  "Based on the feedback we’ve received so far, this is, conceptually speaking, a ’home run,’ so I think we’ll try it again at next year’s meeting."
