Biking for a Cure in Boston

09/09/2007

On Sunday, September 9, a group of six Kidney Cancer Association supporters in Massachusetts biked The Flattest Century in the East (TFCE) with the Narragansett Bay Wheelmen organization. The ride started at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth, MA. The ride was well organized with over 1,900 participants and three rest stops. Although the ride is not a fundraiser, the group took it upon themselves to raise nearly $3,000 for the Kidney Cancer Association. “The ride was tough, but we made it!” , said team leader Eric Braun, “for one small day, we felt a bit of the pain that cancer patients feel every day. It’s one small step, but it helps us better empathize with the millions around us who have cancer.”
The  ride was in honor of Eric’s wife Kasia’s brother, Lech Zalewski, who has been battling stage 4 renal cell carcinoma for the past five years. Until two years ago, Lech was an avid biker who attacked hills and tumors with equal gusto.

Riders in ther group biked between 52 and 105 miles and included:
Bob Adduci

Lech Andruskiewicz

Eric Braun

Kasia Braun

Mayah Braun

Jim Gordon
