Here's our story...
I am a middle school teacher in Phoenix, Arizona. In September of 2012, my father was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma. It was a complete shock to everyone. Anytime you hear the word "cancer" it is scary, especially when it is associated with someone you love. Let me start by saying my Dad is the most amazing Dad and just an all around great guy.
Initially, my Dad was being tested for kidney stones. During an ultrasound, they located a significant sized tumor in his right kidney that had to be removed immediately. My Dad underwent a complete nephrectomy about 2 weeks after his diagnosis. As of now, we believe he is cancer-free as the Doctors do not think it had spread elsewhere… it was caught just in time.
In honor of my Dad (Larry D. Hohl) and all those affected by kidney cancer, my students came up with the idea of organizing a Fundraiser Walk to raise money to find a cure! My students are so excited to be putting on this event to help others. It truly is so neat to see the look in their eyes when they realize they are making a difference in others' lives.
The 1st “LDH Kidney Cancer Walk” is set to take place on Saturday, February 23rd, 2013.
